Run For Good's mission is to provide fun, accessible and unique running and walking events in the Pacific Northwest Region with an emphasis on charitable giving. We award prizes for male, female and non-binary categories.
None of our races have any time limits and in fact, some of them even have prizes for last place finishers!
Our race director is a member of the Running Industry Diversity Coalition and is constantly attending and participating in forums and discussions on the topic. We would love to form an advisory group to increase diversity at our events. Interested in joining? Email us.
Each of our events has at least one ADA toilet.
We try to have a completely wheel friendly course as much as possible. Please see individual event websites for more info.
Working on getting an ASL interpreter for our costume contests and awards ceremonies.
Some of races have kid's dashes and when we do they are almost always free and almost always come with a free kids activity tent.
Select races will now include baby changing stations and nursing stations.
We don't just lump anyone above 65 into one 65+ age category. Nope, we break it down up until 80+! We love our Silver Striders.
We try to partner with many diverse nonprofits with a wide range of causes.
At least one gluten free option in our food tent at each event.
Our race websites will soon have the option of being translated into other languages.
We recognize that we run and walk on the lands of the Coast Salish peoples, whose ancestors have resided here since time immemorial.
We are going cupless for 2024. We will still offer water stations but please bring your own bottle.
You can sign up for the "trees not tees" option for most of our races. Opt in and instead of a shirt we donate your shirt money to plant a tree.
All of our food packaging is compostable.
Encourage carpooling and offer up suggestions for public transportation options.
Instead of medals which often end up in the landfill, we try to always offer something useful at our finish lines. Previous finishers have received reflective running lights, beanies, vaccination card holders, bib holders....
Many of our events you can opt out of swag and save some money.
Ilana grew up in the Seattle area and started her 'career' as a runner when joining her first marathon training with Team in Training as a way to fundraise and support her father as he went through a cancer diagnosis and treatment. In her previous life she was in PR for nonprofits. During the 2008 economic downturn, she got laid off from her 'real job' and that started her journey in race directing. With time on her hands, and still fundraising for Team in Training, she thought she would start an event as her fundraiser. Thus was born Run Scared. After the first year she thought,"Hey, that was fun. Could I make a business out of it?" Run for Good Racing has been her life ever since. She started with 2 events and has grown the business to what it is now. You can still find her out on the trails, especially if there is a pastry at the finish line!
Christine is a Seattle area native who grew up playing sports where running was always considered “punishment.” It wasn’t until college that Christine realized running could be fun and she started her completely non-competitive running ‘career’ with the Seattle Half Marathon in 2003. Since those days, there have been multiple marathon seasons with Team in Training, half marathons on the regular, and even a toe-dip into ultra-running with a 50K in 2023. After becoming a mom, Christine wanted to combine her love of running with her career in marketing and events. She connected with Ilana in 2016 and the rest is history! When she’s not welcoming you at registration for the latest race, you can find Christine out for long runs, baking cookies or hanging with her husband and 3 crazy boys.
Holly has been a runner and triathlete since joining Team in Training in 2010 to raise money for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. She met Ilana at the Good Karma 5k to learn about organizing 5k events, and has been happy to have volunteered and worked with Run for Good for over 10 years! She enjoys biking with friends and her family, is getting back into training for running events, and teaches geometry & Algebra 2 during the school year. Her favorite event is Run Scared in October. You can usually find her at a water stop or carrying a pile of cones before and after races. She loves being the lead vehicle, we even got her an official flashing light for the top of her truck. Feel free to say hello and ask her your burning math questions!
Ian Henderson, AKA, Ilana's husband, is the talent behind most of Run For Good's graphics and race day photography. Ian is a graphic designer, artist, game designer, musician, and composer (some people get all the talent, don't they!). Ian does graphic and sound design for a local game company. He has released many music albums under the name Painted Water, and has fine art is in several local galleries. Check out his art and music here. Ian loves to travel, do goofy voice impressions and play games. You will see him at most of our finish lines, behind the lens.
